Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival 2024 draws crowds

The 20th Edition of the popular Sundaram Finance Mylapore Festival 2024 began with the early morning Kutcheri at the park presented by students of the Omkar school of music, Sholinganallur. Maintaining perfect rhythm and harmony, they regaled the crowd that had gathered to hear them at Nageswara Rao Park.

The action then shifted to colourful performances in the open-air main stage at Sannidhi Street quadrangle, comprising of music and a puppet show against the backdrop of the multi-pillared mantap of the temple and the gopuram in the background

It began with Mylal Rajendran’s Nagaswaram artistes setting the tone for the evening. This was followed by a puppet show conducted by Muthu Chandran and his team. Hundreds of people gathered at the square enjoyed this puppet show as Muthu regaled them with his act. 

Earlier in the day there was a Puppet show for schools where celebrated puppeteer Muthu Chandran and his caravan team of tholpavai koothu artistry wowed over 300 students of Lady Sivaswami Ayyar Girls School, Mylapore in the morning. The troupe plans to host the same show at six local schools for the @MylaporeFestival : 

The last performance had the crowd swaying to vintage tamizh film music as ever popular singers C A Rajan and Vijaya skillfully delivered yesteryear hits to a large crowd

As part of the festival, Sundaram Finance has been crusading the cause of “Say No to Plastic Bags”. Around 10,000 cloth bags will be given to residents in exchange for plastic bags. Sundaram Finance employees and Mylapore Festival volunteers helped  with the distribution of these bags while educating the public on the ill-effects of plastic on the environment. Sundaram Finance also conducts a “Keep Mylapore Clean” campaign by educating the public on hygiene and sanitation.
