Chennai, June 2024 – GEO India Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to alleviating poverty in rural and tribal communities, with a special focus on women, youth, and children, as a grand celebration of Environmental day, successfully conducted its “Green Run” event today at the YMCA Ground in Nandanam, Chennai.
The run saw an impressive turnout of over 3,000 participants runners, each carrying a plant sampling along with them during the run, symbolizing the event’s significance in promoting a green and clean environment while fostering a collective dedication to green sustainability across generations. T. Priya Jemima, Founder and Executive Trustee, Geo India Foundation organised and coordinated the event.
The “Green Run” was open to participants of all ages and fitness levels, featuring 3 km and 5 km categories. Runners from diverse backgrounds, including men, women, youth, and individuals of all abilities, eagerly spent their morning on the running course, demonstrating their commitment to green environmental causes.
The event was officially flagged off by Chief Guest Mr. Deepak Srivastava, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest & Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu, State Wetland Authority and Chief Mission Director, Green Tamil Nadu who inspired the participants with a speech on the importance of environmental conservation and clean green environment.
Dr. A Kanagaraj, Chairman, Jaya Group of Institutions and Ms Rohini Mohan, India Head – Globe Link India Pvt Ltd graced the occasion as Special Guests, lending their support and encouraging the participants.
The event also featured Guests of Honour, Mr. Asar Pandian, General Secretary & CEO, YMCA Madras, Dr T.N Santhosh Kumar, Chairman-Cultural & Social Committee, YMCA, Mr K. Sudeep, Head Human Resources-BFSI, TCS Ltd, Ms Sheetal Rajini, Regional Head, Chennai – TCS Ltd and Mr Balaji. M P, DGM, HCL Technologies Ltd whose presence highlighted the significance of the event.
Actress Losliya Mariyanesan attended as a Celebrity Guest, adding excitement and enthusiasm among the participants.
To celebrate the runners’ efforts, medals were distributed to the top 20 finishers in the male, female, and youth categories, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and recognition of their achievements.
The “Green Run” not only promoted environmental awareness and a healthier lifestyle but also underscored GEO India Foundation’s commitment to green sustainable development and community empowerment. By organizing such events, the Foundation aims to unite people from all walks of life in contributing to a better, greener future.
