MINISTER SIVA V MEYYANATHAN INAUGURATES MCC SCHOOL’S WASTE WATER RECYCLING SYSTEM SPONSORED BY HECS

Chennai, September 2024 – On the occasion of World Ozone Day, Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School (MCCHSS) celebrated the inauguration of a cutting-edge Waste Water Recycling and Re-use system, sponsored by HECS – Hubert Enviro Care Systems Pvt. Ltd as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The event was graced by Thiru. Siva V Meyyanathan, Honorable Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Tamil Nadu, who officially inaugurated and kick- started the plant’s operations. The event also saw the participation of Dr. J.R. Moses, CEO of HECS, Dr. G.J. Manoharan, Correspondent of MCC School, and Mr. G Jebadoss Thinakaran, Principal of MCC School.

During his address, the Minister remarked on the significance of the initiative in conserving water resources, stressing theimportance of environmental protection and resource conservation. He commended the waste water treatment project for being an exemplary effort towards sustainability, and foraligning with global and state goals to protect and conserve natural resources towards a greener Tamil Nadu. He also spoke on the various efforts of the TN Govt towards protecting the environment.

Dr. J.R. Moses highlighted HECS’s continued commitment to supporting communities through impactful CSR projects. Henoted that the new recycling plant will allow the school to reduce its dependence on raw water sources by up to 25%, with treated water being reused for non-potable applications. He provided an overview of the project, which includes a waste water collection system, advanced treatment processes, and a distribution system for repurposing treated water. Furthermore, Dr. Moses announced HECS’s launch of a scholarship program aimed at supporting students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, reinforcing the company’s dedication to social responsibility and community development.

In addition to the plant’s unveiling, the event showcased videos highlighting the school’s dedication to environmental preservation and its green initiatives. These efforts, alongside the new waste water recycling system, aim to promote awareness among students and foster a deeper understanding of sustainability, and encourage them to be ambassadors of sustainability in their communities

The program concluded with the Honorable Minister inaugurating the plant, signaling the start of its operations, and expressing hopethat the project would inspire a wider adoption of water conservation practices across schools in Tamil Nadu.
