After the launch, AOMSI organised a FREE oral cancer screening (mouth and jaw) at the venue. This free oral cancer screening was done with the advanced screening device Velscope by renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeons (Face, Mouth, Jaw surgeons).

The main objective of this oral cancer detection camp is to create awareness among underserved populations about the importance of screening and identifying Mouth and Jaw cancer at an early stage to facilitate timely intervention and comprehensive care for treatment.

Oral cancer is one of the major public health issues. The common misconception among the mass that chewing tobacco is safer than smoking, but various research findings reveal that smokeless tobacco such as supari, gutka, mawa and others can be considered significant risk factors for oral cancer.

Beginning today, the AOMSI, Tamilnadu & Puducherry branch plans to conduct a series of oral cancer awareness and screening camps throughout Tamil Nadu and Puducherry offering FREE oral examinations, especially in remote areas. A team comprising Oral and maxillofacial Surgeons (Face, Mouth, Jaw) from AOMSI is engaged in this initiative.

We aim to screen continuously during the weekend camps in different locations identified by our team. AOMSI will be too happy to move forward with the support of governmental, non-governmental and corporates to reach a larger audience. At AOMSI, we strongly feel that this lifesaving camp will not only be able to detect mouth and jaw cancer at an early stage and facilitate a timely intervention but also educate the masses on the importance of adopting health screening plus preventative approaches and moving towards a healthier lifestyle.

AOMSI has a strong presence, with more than 7,000 members in the national association and 500 plus members in the Tamilnadu and Puducherry branch.
