Chennai, November 13th , 2024: In observance of World Diabetes Day, Deepam Eye Hospitals is taking a proactive step in raising awareness about the critical issue of Diabetic Retinopathy, a leading cause of blindness globally. To address this concern, Deepam Eye hospital is offering free eye checkups on November 14, 2024, at its branches in Avadi, Tiruvallur, and Urapakkam. The One day camp aims to provide Diabetic Retinopathy screening to diabetic patients, individuals with a family history of the condition, and people aged 40 and above.
Diabetic Retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness. According to World Health Organization, the number of adults worldwide with Diabetic retinopathy was estimated to be 103.12 million in 2020, and this number is projected to increase to 160.50 million by 2045, which is which is placing an immense burden on global healthcare systems. Diabetic Retinopathy is one of the most common complications of diabetes. It is caused by damage to the small blood vessels in the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. This condition can develop in anyone who has diabetes mellitus – type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
