Donation of Medical Equipment to Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital

Chennai, 2 April 2025: The REC Foundation, the CSR arm of REC Ltd. (formerly known as ‘Rural Electrification Corporation, Ltd.’) is donating Rs.1.83 crores under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme for the procurement of essential medical equipment at Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital, Chennai (KKCTH). The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the REC Foundation and Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital was signed on 02-Apr-2025 at the Hospital premises in Chennai.The MOA was signed by Smt. Thara Ramesh (HoD & Chief Program Manager, REC Ltd.) and Mr. S. Rengarajan (CEO of KKCTH – a unit of The CHILDS Trust), in the presence of Shri. Narayanan Thirupathy, Independent Director, REC Ltd., and Dr. Janani Sankar, Medical Director of KKCTH.

REC Limited is a public infrastructure finance company under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. It primarily provides financial assistance for power generation, transmission, and distribution projects, with a strong focus on rural electrification and renewable energy initiatives. REC plays a key role in supporting India’s energy infrastructure through low-cost funding, policy-driven schemes, and partnerships with state governments and power utilities.

Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital, a renowned pioneer in multispecialty pediatric healthcare, has been serving the healthcare needs of underprivileged children since 1979, ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible and affordable to everyone. Since 2024, the Hospital also provides Obstetric & Gynaecological services, especially for high-risk pregnancies.

The donation of Rs. 1.83 Crores from REC Foundation will be used to procure various advanced Bio-Medical Equipment, including ventilators for the ICUs, a Laser for performing advanced ENT surgery, equipment for resuscitating critically ill children in the Emergency Room, warmers and other equipment for treating premature babies in the Neonatal ICU, and essential Laboratory equipment.

The following equipment are to be procured with these funds:

➢ Transport ventilator for providing mechanical ventilation to seriously ill newborn babies being transported from other cities

➢ Mechanical ventilators – to provide ventilation to seriously ill babies and children

➢ A Blue Carbon dioxide laser for performing advanced ENT surgeries for children

➢ Equipment for the Operation Theaters, including Lights and advanced monitors

➢ Equipment for the Neonatal ICU, including warmers to keep premature babies warm

➢ Equipment for the Laboratory to perform advanced blood tests for various infections

The REC Foundation has always believed in serving underprivileged sections of society. This equipment will augment the existing state-of the-art facilities available in the Hospital and will enable it to continue providing advanced therapies to seriously ill poor children.

Special speech had been given by Sri. Narayanan Thirupathy, Independent Director and appreciated the functionality of the hospital for helping economically underprivileged Children. Also, he quoted about the experienced doctors for more than 20 years and 30 years and recollected his sons treatment in this hospital. He was also talking about the infrastructure of our hospital and he was much supportive in future in addition to equipment supports.

He was also explained about how REC is supporting and main focus on rural areas of Tamil Nadu. They are also supporting many hospitals through their CSR activities in TAMILNADU mainly supporting under privileged sections of society.

Mrs. THARA RAMESH, chief program manager – REC Limited addressed in the meeting and said that they have sanctioned 300 CSR projects and disbursed Rs. 1100 crores for various CSR activities in India which are covered on economic environmental and social activities. They are supporting for social beneficial projects covered under environmental sustainability, sanitation and hygiene facilities under which only they have approved the CSR amount for our hospital.

She said REC is supportive for Women empowerment, sports and rural infrastructure as well.

Mr. Rengarajan, CEO of KKCTH, also very much appreciated REC for their focus fields on sanitation and hygiene facilities, promotion of healthcare facilities, skill development, women empowerment, environmental sustainability and rural infrastructural development in order to facilitate an inclusive social development. He also much thankful to REC for sanctioning Rs. 1.83 crores for procurement of bio medical equipment for KKCTH. This amount will definitely go a long way in treating the poor children from underprivileged societies.
