~ The Camp is Scheduled on July 21st at Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals, Velappanchavadi~
Chennai, July 20th, 2024: In a proactive initiative to raise awareness of kidney health and address the common concern – kidney stones, which are so prevalent in adolescents and adults, Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals, Velappanchavadi, has scheduled its upcoming Kidney Stone Camp for July 21. This event aims to give opportunities for the community to take preventive steps to reduce the risk of kidney stones, and those who suspect they may have kidney stones can clarify their concerns through diagnostic tests, and treatment options will be discussed.
Kidney stones, a common yet often painful condition affecting many individuals, are primarily composed of minerals and salts such as calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate, and uric acid. These substances crystallize and accumulate in the kidneys, forming kidney stones. This happens mainly because of inadequate water intake and poor dietary habits, says Dr. Pavan Arcot Prakash, Consultant Urologist at Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals. He emphasizes the importance of choosing a diet that is low in oxalate, animal proteins, salt, sugary foods & beverages, and vitamin C supplements to prevent kidney stones and their recurrence.
Also, he added that recognizing the symptoms early is important for timely diagnosis and treatment. The symptom of kidney stones starts with sudden and intense pain in the side or back and may radiate to the lower abdomen or groin. Other symptoms include painful urination or a burning sensation during urination, feeling the need to urinate more often than usual, and nausea/vomiting. Some may have cloudy or foul-smelling urine or blood in the urine. Moreover, those who have large stones may have difficulty passing urine or a reduced urine flow.
Ultrasound is preferred for detecting kidney stones and for further investigation or is necessarily recommended by the urologist, a CT scan would rather be advisory. This is to visualize even small stones and accurately determine their size and location as well.
Dr Saravana Kumar, Group Unit Head of Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals, Global Campus in Velappanchavadi, highlights that this Kidney Stone Camp provides a great opportunity for individuals experiencing symptoms of kidney stones or those at risk of developing them.
Patients can avail of a 50% off on a doctor consultation and a CT scan. And USG (ultrasound) and the complementing RFT test to know kidney health are now available at discounted prices.
“By bringing together healthcare experts and the community, we aim to raise awareness, reduce misconceptions, and ultimately improve outcomes for those affected by kidney stones and focus on kidney health.” added Dr Saravana Kumar.
