Chennai, January 20, 2025: IKEA, the world’s most loved Swedish home furnishings retailer, announces the launch of online deliveries across Tamil Nadu, making its wide range of good-quality, affordable and sustainable home solutions accessible to customers in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Salem. Customers can now seamlessly explore and buy from over6,400 home furnishing products and solutions through the IKEA app, ikea.in, or via Shop-by-Phone assistance, bringing the IKEA experience closer to home.
Tamil Nadu has shown a strong affinity for IKEA’s home furnishing solutions, with over 25,000 customers already a part of the IKEA Family community (loyalty program with early sale access, offers and exclusive workshops). With this launch, IKEA comes closer to customers through a seamless end-to-end experience across web and app, supported by online one-to-one planning services, home delivery, and assembly. The 3–7-day delivery timeline, long-term warranties ranging from 5 to 25 years, and a 365-day return policy, make it easier than ever to be an IKEA customer. All last-mile deliveries in the region will be powered by electric vehicles, reinforcing IKEA’s commitment to more sustainable ways of meeting customers.
“Beginning 2026 with our online launch in Tamil Nadu is especially meaningful as we continue to strengthen and grow our presence in South India. We are excited as this allows us to meet customers where they are, support everyday life at home, and build long-term relationships in a market that has already shown strong love for IKEA. Every market and every home teach us something new, and this launch is another important step in that journey. Learnings here will influence the future shopping formats and help identify the right locations. This launch is the beginning of our long-term omnichannel journey in Chennai and insights from e-commerce and planning services will shape our future stores and offerings here,” said Patrik Antoni, CEO, IKEA India.
“It is our pleasure to welcome IKEA to Chennai, and we look forward to the launch of its first retail store in the city in the near future. We are confident that the launch of IKEA’s e-commerce operations in Chennai will strengthen the region’s supply chains and last-mile logistics. Under the leadership of the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru MK Stalin, we seek to enable technology-led, inclusive growth, where global companies deepen their engagement with Tamil Nadu and grow alongside our economy”, shares Dr. TRB Rajaa, Minister for Industries, Investment Promotions and Commerce in the Government of Tamil Nadu.
“For years, customers from Tamil Nadu, especially Chennai, have shown a strong desire to engage with IKEA, whether through online searches, conversations on social media, or by travelling long distances to shop with us. That consistent interest has shaped how we grow. Today, online contributes over 30% of our sales and plays a vital role in helping us understand regional needs and everyday life at home, allowing us to strengthen our range and plan more thoughtfully for the future. The start of doorstep deliveries in Tamil Nadu is a natural next step in that journey, bringing us closer to customers, deepening our understanding of life at home in this market, and helping us serve them better over time,” said Bhavana Jaiswal, Country E-commerce Integration Manager, IKEA India.
Homes in Tamil Nadu are built for everyday life; spaces where work, study, celebrations, and family moments come together. Many reflect a modern Indian style, blending furniture with handicrafts, artwork, and greenery, balancing tradition with contemporary living. Drawing from its Swedish heritage, IKEA brings thoughtfully designed and affordable solutions to Chennai. These solutions address the realities of Chennai homes where space is shared, routines overlap, and homes constantly adapt helping people organise better, live more comfortably, and make room for what matters most.
IKEA reaches over 300 million visitors nationally across online and offline channels and has a strong base of 2.7 million IKEA Family members. Chennai already accounts for over 25,000 members, and the start of deliveries is expected to further strengthen engagement across Tamil Nadu. All orders in Tamil Nadu will be fulfilled through the Bengaluru distribution network, supported by a robust logistics and last-mile delivery ecosystem.
