Sculpting Awareness: SRMIST’s Sand Art Campaign at Elliot’s Beach Highlighting Ocean Pollution

Chennai, April 27, 2025 — The School of Architecture and Interior Design at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) Kattankulathur campus. is set to raise environmental awareness through the power of sand and creativity. A thought-provoking Sand Art Campaign, addressing the critical themes of ocean pollution, will take place at the iconic Elliot’s Beach, Chennai, on April 27, 2025.

This public event invites everyone to witness students and faculty transform sand into striking artistic expressions that reflect the urgency of protecting our oceans and freshwater ecosystems. Each sculpture will narrate a visual story—highlighting the consequences of pollution and the urgent need for sustainable practices.

“This is more than just sand art—it’s a powerful cry from the shore. Through sand, sea, and storytelling, we’re sculpting a movement. Each grain speaks of the damage done, and each form urges us to protect what remains,” says the organizers from SRMIST’s School of Architecture and Interior Design, Kattankulathur.

Open to the public, the campaign aims to encourage community participation and dialogue around the environmental impact of human actions. With marine life under threat and pollution levels on the rise, the event calls for reflection, responsibility, and change—starting with awareness.

This campaign is not just an artistic showcase—it’s an invitation. An invitation to pause, reflect, and engage. By bringing the conversation into a public space as symbolic and accessible as the beach, the event fosters participation at every level—from curious onlookers to committed environmentalists.
As the tide rolls in beside these carefully sculpted stories, viewers are reminded of the fragile balance between human activity and the health of our natural ecosystems. Marine life is gasping for survival, suffocated by plastics, toxins, and negligence. Through this initiative, SRMIST hopes to spark meaningful dialogue, nurture a sense of shared responsibility, and inspire collective action for a cleaner, healthier environment.
