SKPC CELEBRATED SAMATHUVA PONGAL/THAMIZHAR THIRUNAL

CHENNAI:SRI KANYAKA PARAMESWARI ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN celebrated Samathuva Pongal/Thamizhar Thirunal on 10/01/2024 (Wednesday) at 9. 00 am in the college premises. Mr. RIYO RAJ, Actor & Video Jockey gave his consent to be the Chief Guest of the day. Ms. BHAVYA TRIKHA, Actress was the special guest of the day. The programme started with a prayer and followed by the Lighting of the Lamp. The Welcome Address was delivered by Hony Correspondent Vootukuru Sarath Kumar. Principal Dr. T. Mohanashree gave Chief Guest Introduction. Dean Dr. P. B. Vanitha, Vice Principal Dr. M. V. Nappinai, Ms. B. Rani, Nakshatra Student’s Council Vice President (Shift – I), Dr. M. Prinyanka Nakshatra Student’s Council Vice President (Shift – II) and Dr. P. Barani Kumari IQAC Coordinator & Nakshatra Student’s Council Staff Secretary were present on the stage. We honored the farmers for their immense invaluable contribution in the field of agriculture in particular and for making our country proud. We also honored those who have rendered their services to our college. We presented gifts to students who were from The Chennapuri Anadana Samajam.

To inculcate the tradition value, Pongal celebration took place in village ghetto, which depicts the four days of the festival. We began our festival by celebrating Bhogi (pollution free). To make the moment a real one, Traditional games such as Dhayam, Ring Tose, Kallanga, Goli, Pallanguzhi, Gillidanda, Bambaram & Paramapadham were conducted. Pongal making, Tug of War and rangoli competitions were also conducted and Traditional Food Stalls were put up with healthy food items like millet based dishes and traditional sweets. Students performed Gummiattam, Karagattam, Mayilattam, Poikkal Gudhirai, Kavadiattam, Silambattam, Tamil Folk, Telugu Folk, Hindi Folk, Western Dance and Music band.
The students enthusiastically celebrated Pongal festival to thank god for all his goodness and mercies and to look forward to a prosperous year. They arrived in traditional sarees to mark the occasion. It was an ambience filled revelry, music, dance and the joyful faces reverberated with big smiles. There were a bunch of students taking turns in enjoying the bullock cart ride around the campus. The ‘Uri Adithal’ a traditional game played by the chief guest and the students.
