The Inaugural of Chennai Junior Football League (CJFL) is an invitational football league created as a showcase of youth football in the city by Mr. Sameer Bharat Ram, a sports enthusiast and founder of Sportorama. The event was inaugurated by Dr Alexander Jesudasan, Pro Vice Chancellor, Hindustan University and Mr. Venu Srinivasan, Managing Director, Leo Coffee at The Gandhi Nagar Club, Adyar.
The League features 6 premier Chennai Youth Academies who compete in the 11-a-side format at the highest level of competition in the state. This league fills a void in youth football competition, which is so fundamental to building a eco-system and culture for the sport and becoming competitive as a Nation.
The U-17 Women’s World Cup has begun in India and this is another reason we need to emphasize development in the Junior levels of sport. And providing quality competition is a key pillar of this development.
The league is sponsored by Hindustan University andLeo Coffee. COSCO is the sponsor of the official tournament ball. The competition is for U-13 and U-15 categories respectively. We have 6 academies participating in the tournament (in alphabetical order)– Aazura FC, Chennaiyin FC, FC Madras, Great Goals, Mahogany FC and SPFA. These are all teams that have participated in the AIFF run Youth I leagues in Tamil Nadu. Mr Abraham Varghese of Hindustan University will be the League Director.
Matches will be played in Hindustan University, Padur. The league will commence on the 16thOctober and continue until the first week of November.
